TONIGHT.
Nick Campolo of CRINKLES will rock it solo as HEAVYPET. Haven’t had a chance to see him play solo since he opened for JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD ( who are coming back ! ). HIDEOUS MEN and NIGHT of JOY are both acts hailing from COLORADO on a run of the East Coast as of now. Kind of a last minute affair pancaked in between their slots down at YALE and DEATH BY AUDIO/PIANOS in NYC.
Hideous Men
Hideous Men consists of Ryan McRyhew and Kristi Schaefer. With Ryan’s background in analog synths and love of rap and experimental noise, (and his previous involvement in electronic-noise group, BDRMPPL) paired with Kristi’s appreciation of riot grrl, hardcore punk and pop, Hideous Men make self-proclaimed “dance music for weirdos.”
Night of Joy
Denver’s Westword describes Night of Joy as “a musical collaboration that takes the buoyant, outré pop of the early Breeders, the post-punk minimalism of Young Marble Giants and the spidery end of Television’s guitar work and combines it with the latter’s sharp but palpably emotive vocals.” Now joined by Germaine Baca (Old Time Relijun/Rainbow Sugar) on drums, the trio’s live shows are punchy assaults of short originals with a Black Flag and T. Rex cover or two, and the occasional Young Money/D4L a cappella rendition.
