Phantogram + Junk Culture w. tooth ache and DJ Disco Phantom – 2.22.10

That means tonight.

Matt from MSR Live has another one for us. And the Monkey House is happy to be hosting it.

Phantogram came through Burlington last in October of 2008 to the best of my knowledge. At the time they were called CHARLIE EVERYWHERE and were supporting The BRAZILIAN GIRLS down at Metronome.

Heard it was a pretty epic event all and all.

I happened to walk in right as the last song was ending and the prego singer was walking backstage.

Missed it all. but did grab a nice little sampler with a few tracks that ended up being on their BARSUK debut titled EYELID MOVIES.

there’ll be some rad video rolling about and lots o dancing. at least by some.

I’ll be sitting at the bar.

PHANTOGRAM is the duo comprised of Sarah D. Barthel and Joshua M. Carter of Saratoga Springs, NY. Their music is a mix of organic and electronic sounds, with swirling guitar, spaced-out synths, and chopped up samples and rhythms.

Recently shared the stage with such acts as:

Yeasayer, The xx, School of Seven Bells, Zero 7 and will head out on tour with Hot Hot Heat as well as The Antlers in the coming weeks.

Junk Culture

A new project by Deepak Mantena, who was recently signed to Illegal Art. On “West Coast,” Deepak’s samples are all run through a handheld recorder that gives his constructions a gritty lo-fi loop-based sound, mixing fractured vocals, pop hooks, and an overall euphoric warmth.
