Chris Brokaw + Geoff Farina – The Lamb Abbey – 12.13.09 – Early Show!

Looks as though it might finally happen. 4th time around.

I remember seeing KARATE back at the Space Gallery in Portland, Maine in October of 2004. The 2nd to be exact. Had been on a streak of seeing some great shows in anticipation of moving back to VT to start a full time job. Just graduated and had had a wonderful summer/ fall as a deck hand on Casco Bay.

Had only read about Geoff Farina and KARATE and was psyched to catch them.

Small crowd but a good crowd, and a wonderful opener by the name of CHRIS BROKAW.

Have yet to see him since then.

Chris has come through the area 3 times prior to this gig and I’ve come close to seeing him. Once I showed up with a Montreal crew only to find he had already finished. Other times it simply didn’t pan out ride/ work wise.

Sunday looks to be the day.

in 1990, he began recording and performing internationally with CODEINE, with whom he played drums and guitar on 2 records for SUB-POP. in 1992, he left that band to pursue songwriting, singing and guitar playing with COME, who recorded four albums for MATADOR and toured internationally over the course of 10 years.

He currently plays solo as well as with the following bands:

FFLASHLIGHTS (with doug mccombs and elliot dicks); DIRTMUSIC (with chris eckman and hugo race); THE THURSTON MOORE GROUP (with thurston moore, samara lubelski, matt heyner and steve shelley); and THE NEW YEAR (touch and go). He also has a duo with GEOFF FARINA (ex-karate);

Chris also has performed and/or recorded recently accompanying CHRISTINA ROSENVINGE; JENNIFER O’CONNOR; and THE LEMONHEADS.

Geoff Farina fronts Glorytellers, the Boston trio that has included guitarists Josh Larue, Jeffrey Charland, Mike Castellana, and drummers Luther Gray and Gavin McCarthy. Geoff is probably best known for the abstract lyrics and genre-flouting guitar style he developed over his 12 years with Karate, or as one-half of The Secret Stars, the seminal early-90s duo that passed around home-made cassettes.
