Tonight at Club Metronome there’s a rad Funk Band playing. Not too out of the ordinary for afunk band to be in town, especially at Metronome, but this particular band is made up of some folks in some not so funky outfits.

After years of motorik rhythms, !!! stiffness, and cold artbeeps, CSC Funk Band is the Brooklyn noise-punk scene’s very first F-U-N-K band. A brand new project from USAISAMONSTER founder Colin Langenus and Talibam!’s skronko nutball Matt Mottel, CSC likes to push their Rhys Chatham and “experimental” aspects to the forefront, but they’re really just a balls-out funk band like any of the improv-heavy post-JB’s, post-Fela, post-Garcia groove-jammers that play the Bonnaroo circuit—and that’s not an insult, because these guys seriously rip. With congas and everything!
