“Now I am versed in silence/

my throat hurts, not from yelling but from holding back”

To your left is the cover art for the most recent release of Sub Pop recording artist Death Vessel, Nothing Is Precious Enough For Us.  The line above is from the first line from the albums first track “Block My Eye.”  While the heart and soul of Death Vessel is Joel Thibdeau and the great songs he has written, the body of the album is a beautifully layered and arranged collection of instruments, voices, textures and spaces.  There is something to be said for the arrangement on an album that matches the caliber of songwriting.  The record travels high and low with intensity and each track creates a world for the song itself to exist within.  There is a rare beauty achieved in this balance.  What we will see at the Monkey House this Saturday is Joel performing solo.  The beauty of his voice and his formidable finger picking is all that will be present. The heart and the soul.

Crinkles are sort of a local group.  Some of the members live here, other do not.  They are just finishing up a 7″ and have an album that you are welcome to download, for free, here.  I’ve not yet seen them live, so am especially looking forward to that.

Lastly, starting the night off will be Anna Pardenik.   Anna IS a local songwriter, and a beautifully talented one at that.   I encourage everyone that is seeking a not to wild and crazy saturday night to come out and see the show.  Chances are it will be “somewhat seated.”

*tickets are available at Pure Pop and The Monkey House.  Extra $5 for <21 is policy of the Monkey House and will be collected upon entry.
