Was just reading up on what music might be going on in Portland while I’m back home for Thanksgiving and noticed I hadn’t yet read the mailer I received from the Time Lag mailing list. Noticed that they had a handful of interesting and eclectic events scheduled in November. Might only be able to catch the lecture, if anything at all unfortunately.
Their first upcoming event is a co sponsored event between Time Lag Records and the newly organized label Rivers Of.
Also, PLEASE check out the blog, Grown So Ugly, that Rivers Of is based out of.
MONDAY NOV. 12th
rivers of & time-lag records present:
@ ONE LONGFELLOW, 181 state st. portland, me.
8pm. $8.00
A long slow burning raga woven from buzzing steel string drones, dense and deftly interwoven, over the top, simple Eastern melodies, that also buzz and rumble, and above it all soft crystalline chimes from the modified music boxes, adding a bit of subtle sparkle and dreamy melody to the dark and moody minor key raga-scape beneath. Really cool.

IAN NAGOSKI
– presents a lecture/presentation on the subject rare ethnic 78s
“I make recordings of single sounds, over and over again. Each track is slightly different but each is part of a set of that single sound. Then, rerecording that tape down a bunch of times in various mixes and at various speeds with the idea of tuning them to each other in mind onto multiple CDs, I play the CDs back together – sequentially and simultaneously – along with the source tape through a mixer, which then becomes the performance instrument. Controlling the tape speed and EQ of like sounds as I project them back into a room, I play the entire sound with equal attention to the interferences as to their related source-elements.”
Also.
If anyone wants any Time Lag schwag.
I’ll be in Portland for a few days around Thanksgiving.
I’m hoping to visit the new store since last time I was in town they were closed.
Shoot me an email if there’s desired vinyl or rarities.
